Stealing is good. That’s how you learn. Picasso was smarter than you will ever be. But there is no point in stealing from someone within your field, so do not plagiarise a top illustrator, steal a look from some obscure folk artist of the 1920’s or model a style based on a french porno from the turn of the century. Steal from someone or someplace that is not represented in the field you wish to enter. And of course, eventually you’ve got to synthesize all you have stolen from others into a style of your own.
